  𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗚𝗘 𝗩𝗨𝗟𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 : If you want to find where the most money has been lost in crypto I'd definitely say it's bridges and reasons why I'm writing on it [ explanation , my thoughts , etc ] . Cross chain bridges have been one of the most exploited category in DeFi history. . Ronin bridge : $625 million. . Wormhole : $320 million. . Nomad : $190 million. . Horizon bridge : $100 million the list is pretty long and the numbers are staggering. The reason is architectural ; a bridge by definition holds assets on one chain and issues representations of those assets on another and that means there is a pool of locked assets somewhere that the entire bridge's security model must protect and if the security fails the pool drains. this is a honeypot by design , not because the teams is careless but because the model & concept requires it. the attack surface is wide ; smart contract vulnerabilities in the bridge logic itself , compromised validator keys in bridges that use trusted relayers , social engineering of multisig signers and oracle manipulation affecting how the bridge verifies cross chain state. Ronin was not a contract exploit ,it was a private key compromise and the attacker gained control of five out of nine validator keys which is enough to authorize fraudulent withdrawals and eventually drained the bridge over two transactions and this theft went undetected for six days. Wormhole was a contract exploit ; a single line of signature verification code contained a flaw that allowed the attacker to mint 120,000 wrapped ETH without depositing any collateral. And the entire thing took one transaction. these are not edge cases , they are representative of a structural problem. The more chains exist, the more bridges exist and the more bridges exist, the more locked liquidity exists in contracts that span two security environments simultaneously ; meaning they inherit the weaknesses of both chains, not the strengths. Native bridges secured by rollup proof system like @Optimism @arbitrum & @base bridges are safer but slower and likewise third party [ fast ] bridges are faster but carry layered trust assumptions most users never read 👀. Every time you bridge assets, you are attributing trust to a model and most people don't know what that model is 🤷‍♀️ that gap between user assumption and reality is where crazy huge amounts 😳 have disappeared.
